IRON MINING

Learn more about Iron Mining in York County and the region by visiting these web sites, or going to the actual sites.
This site is still under construction but will give you a listing of the iron furnaces that once existed in York County.
You can learn more about the geology of the county from Jones Geological Services.
Codorus Furnace was restored and is maintained by the Conservation Society of York County. The society also maintains other sites in the county. Learn more at the Indian Steps Museum site.
You can visit other former iron works in the region. Tours are available at Cornwall Furnace in Lebanon County and Hopewell Furnace in Berks County.
If you're coming from the south, you'll find Codorus Furnace located along Codorus Furnace Road on the right hand side just before the road crosses the creek in Hellam Township or on the left just after crossing the bridge from East Manchester Township. Get a map.
