This past holiday weekend will go down in history as the biggest Memorial Day weekend ever at the box office with an estimated $316 million in gross revenue for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The debut of Fast & Furious 6 was the number one move in the country with $120 million in estimated ticket sales.
The Hangover Part III grossed $51.2 million for a second-place finish, while Star Trek Into Darkness finished in third with an estimated $47 million.
Box office observers note that Christmas weekend 2009 had a bigger three-day total of around $270 million, but for a four-day holiday weekend, this past weekend is tops.
